Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Students, Alumni Present at Conference in St. Augustine
Six current students and graduates from the M.A. in Writing program at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences presented at the Florida Literary Arts Coalition’s 2013 Other Words Literary Conference, held at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, Nov. 7–10.
Student Kevin Lichty and alumna Shannon Welte presented “Imagined Reality or ‘Everything is Copy.” They read excerpts from their respective works of fiction then spoke about the inspiration for their writing, specifically how traveling through and living in small Florida towns impacts their fiction.
Student Veronica Isidron and alumni Brandon Bielich, David Colodney, and Carol Dowd-Forte, presented a panel titled “Tell Me About It…Show AND Tell: The Role Authorial Narrative SHOULD Play in StoryTELLING.” The group offered an alternative to the long-standing literary rule of “show, don’t tell” by encouraging aspiring authors to employ a balanced dosage of both in their writings.
