Verse, Voice, and Vision: Poetry and the Cinema (Scarecrow Press) is one of several books recently published by faculty members in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.

Several faculty members from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences have recently published books in their respective fields of study, serving as authors, co-authors, editors, and contributors.

Reza Razeghifard, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of physical sciences, edited Natural and Artificial Photosynthesis: Solar Power as an Energy Source (Wiley), released in October 2013. The book “explores current and future applications of solar power as an unlimited source of energy” for Earth, according to the publisher. Also contributing chapters were college faculty members Diego Castano, Ph.D., associate professor, and Dimitrios Giarikos, Ph.D., associate professor and assistant director of the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology.

Michael D. Reiter, Ph.D., professor, co-authored The Craft of Family Therapy: Challenging Certainties (Routledge) in September 2013, along with Charmaine Borda and acclaimed therapist Salvador Minuchin, creator of structural family therapy. The book calls upon fundamental family-therapy skills to examine a series of cases, providing an in-depth look at the field’s best strategies and solutions. This follows Reiter’s text Case Conceptualization in Family Therapy (Pearson), released this past February.

Marlisa Santos, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the college’s Division of Humanities, edited Verse, Voice, and Vision: Poetry and the Cinema (Scarecrow Press). Released in September 2013, this collection of essays examines the on-screen depiction of poets and the adaptation of poetry for film, covering a diverse selection of authors and cinematic genres. Suzanne Ferriss, Ph.D., professor at the college, also contributed a chapter to the book. Santos is the author of 2010’s The Dark Mirror: Psychiatry and Film Noir (Lexington Books).

Eileen Smith-Cavros, M.F.A., Ph.D., associate professor, co-authored The Infertility Challenge (JTE Multimedia), released for Amazon Kindle in September 2013. In this e-book, Smith-Cavros and reproductive endocrinologist Ellen Miller, M.D., discuss the facts and fictions associated with infertility issues, offering views from medical and societal perspectives. Smith-Cavros is the author of 2006 Pioneer Voices of Zion Canyon (Zion Natural History Association).
