The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences inducted more than 75 students into the Alpha Chi academic honor society during a ceremony on March 20, 2009, at Nova Southeastern University.

As its mission statement declares, Alpha Chi’s purpose since 1922 “has been to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction.” The top 10 percent of students in each undergraduate major is invited to join Alpha Chi.

During the ceremony, Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, welcomed attendees and introduced the honor society’s faculty advisers, Robin Sherman, Ph.D., associate professor and associate director in the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology, and Stephen Levitt, LL.M., associate professor in the college’s Division of Humanities. Each recognized the outstanding achievements of the students selected for induction into Alpha Chi.

NSU student officers from Alpha Chi: Lauren Butler, a senior majoring in theatre; Carolyn Allwood, a senior majoring in business administration; and Tania Lopez, a senior majoring in biology, were also on hand to induct the new members.

To conclude the ceremony, guest speaker Chad Messina, director of scoreboard operations at Dolphin Stadium, spoke about his accomplishments and the necessary skills and drive needed to survive within the fields of business and sports.
