Farquhar College Inducts 37 Students into Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences inducted 37 students into Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta), the national biology honor society, during a ceremony and reception at NSU on Mar. 27. This is the eighth year the college has inducted students into Tri-Beta at NSU.
The ceremony included opening statements from Joshua Loomis, Ph.D., former Tri-Beta faculty adviser and assistant professor in the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology; Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the college; and Naomi D’Alessio, Ph.D., associate dean of the college. The event continued with a keynote talk by Barbara Grasch, a licensed marriage and family therapist who earned her master’s degree in family therapy and a post-graduate clinical specialty in medical family therapy from NSU. Grasch is the director of program services for the Alzheimer’s Association Southeast Florida Chapter. She has 20 years experience studying Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Students inducted into Tri-Beta for the 2009–2010 academic year include Nick Arcos, Suelan Brown, Anna-Maria Castillo, Rachel Comito, Asma Dalal, Jhanelle Dawes, Rahila Dholakia, Corynne Dignan, Justine Ekladios, Barbara Farrell, Patricia Fernandez, Kristie Garcia, Shoorena Georges, Luz Gonzalez, Yudelkis Gonzalez, Alicia Harnisch, Joe Jones, Ahmad Khalid, Becky Krygsman, Andrew Lister, Stephanie Luff, Reena Parikh, Sagir Patel, Vanessa Pierre, Renee Potens, Abir Rahman, Melanie Reddy, Christian Rodriguez, Brittany Schemtob, Fayssa Salomon, Andrew Schleuning, Hilda Segal, Tarek Sirage, Nergess Taheri, Melissa Veulens, Case Warshall, and Arsheena Yassin.
The Tri-Beta honor society seeks to encourage scholarly attainment in the field of biology by reserving its regular membership for those students who achieve high academic records. It emphasizes a three-fold program, which includes stimulation of scholarship, biological dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the promotion of research.
