The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences hosted its Faculty Symposium, showcasing the research of more than 25 faculty members from the college.

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences hosted its second annual Faculty Symposium on March 23, 2009, at Nova Southeastern University. The event showcased the research of more than 25 faculty members from the college.

A variety of topics from across the disciplines were presented, including inquiry-based pedagogies in science education, reflections on golf and civility, genealogy, theories about white slavery, music in the 20th Century, biker culture and fashion, tracing lineage, politics, and the use of offensive language on morning radio programs.

Faculty members in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences are each engaged in creating, examining, testing, and affirming the material that is covered in each class. To engage in scholarship—to be a productive member of the community of knowledge—is a critical distinction for a university faculty member. The Faculty Symposium is a celebration of this scholarship. The breadth of topics covered in the symposium reflects the diversity of the college as well as the range of expertise amongst its faculty.

For the second consecutive year, the symposium was organized under the guidance of Shanti Bruce, Ph.D., assistant professor, coordinator of the Writing Program, and major chair of the master’s in writing program in the college’s Division of Humanities, and Mark Duncan, M.F.A., assistant professor and coordinator of performing arts in the college’s Division of Performing and Visual Arts.
