Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Welcomes New Faculty Members

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences welcomes 11 new faculty members this fall. Each brings to NSU noteworthy academic experience – both inside and outside of the classroom – in a variety of fields and interests. Over the next three weeks, the names and biographies of these faculty members will be shared in SharkBytes.

This week, the college introduces (in alphabetical order):

Lindsey Bergeron, Ph.D., assistant professor, Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences
Bergeron received her doctoral degree in criminal justice from North Dakota State University in 2010. Throughout her graduate training, Bergeron worked on multiple research projects involving prisoner re-entry issues. She has also published several articles and book chapters and presented at professional conferences. Her current research interests involve identifying variables associated with female criminality, offending, and re-entry, as well as assisting correctional agencies with the development of effective data-gathering and program-evaluation strategies.

Monique Butcher-Mokha, Ph.D., associate professor, Division of Math, Science, and Technology
Butcher-Mokha earned a Ph.D., with an emphasis in biomechanics, from Texas Woman’s University’s Department of Physical Education in 1997. She taught as an assistant professor from 1999 – 2002, and as an associate professor from 2003 – 2007 at Barry University. Butcher-Mokha has taught a variety of courses in the areas of exercise science, biomechanics, and athletic training. She has also published a number of research books, book chapters, and papers in her field. From 1999 – 2007, Butcher-Mokha served as a graduate program director for the biomechanics program specialization at Barry University. She has been an adjunct faculty member at NSU since 2009.

Star Medzerian, Ph.D., assistant professor, Division of Humanities
Medzerian earned her Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Composition, and the Teaching of English (RCTE) from the University of Arizona in 2010. Her teaching encourages students to explore writing as a subject matter, not solely as a means of production. As such, Medzerian’s curricula are often grounded in style and literacy studies. Her research explores the intersections of style pedagogy and classroom writing assessment.

Eric Silk, M.S., M.A., visiting instructor, Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences
Silk is completing his doctoral work in clinical neuropsychology at Nova Southeastern University’s Center for Psychological Studies. He earned a Master of Science in Psychopharmacology from NSU and a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College. Silk was named the 2009–2010 Outstanding Part-Time Teacher of the Year in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. His clinical and research interests are in the areas of neuropsychology, psychopharmacology, substance abuse studies, and forensic psychology.

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at Nova Southeastern University provides outstanding programs of study in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, performing and visual arts, information technology, and biological, environmental, and physical sciences that enhance critical thinking, effective communication, and lifelong learning. New faculty members play a vital role in advancing the college’s mission to prepare students for graduate and professional study, career development, and responsible citizenship.
