Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences M.A. in Writing Student Earns Tutoring Award
Cristine Busser, an M.A. in Writingstudent at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, earned the 2013 Graduate Tutor Award from the Southeastern Writing Center Association (SWCA). According to SWCA, the honor “recognize(s) leadership, commitment, and overall excellence of individuals working in an SWCA writing center.”
At NSU, Busser serves in the college’s Writing Fellows program, which provides course-based writing assistance to students enrolled in first-year composition and undergraduate courses across the curriculum.
“Ms. Busser has become an exceptional mentor to our undergraduate students and to our undergraduate writing fellows,” said Kevin Dvorak, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of the writing center at the college, who leads the Writing Fellows program. “She is someone I know I can count on to assist with tutoring workshops and educational meetings for the rest of the staff. Last fall, she even facilitated a curriculum-vita writing workshop for undergraduate students applying to graduate schools.”
Outside of the classroom, Busser has attended and presented work at several conferences across the country. In Oct. 2012, she presented at the International Writing Centers Association Conferencein San Diego, alongside classmate and writing fellow Sara Stanley. Busser also presented at SWCA’s 2013 conference in February, hosted by the college, and at the organization’s 2012 conference.
