Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Inducts New Members into Marine Science National Honor Society

(Photo caption:) Marine biology majors in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences—(from left) Brittany Serafin, Erin Nassif, Emma Magner, and Francesca Fourney—were recently inducted into the NSU chapter of Rho Rho Rho (PPP), the marine science national honor society. Five undergraduate students from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences have been inducted into the NSU chapter of Rho Rho Rho (PPP). The marine science national honor society recognizes top students enrolled in the college’s marine biology classes.

Marine biology majors Francesca Fourney, Emma Magner, Erin Nassif, and Brittany Serafin were honored during an induction ceremony at NSU on Feb. 21. Also inducted, but unable to attend the ceremony, was Kayla Caldwell.

After opening remarks from Joshua Feingold, Ph.D., faculty adviser for PPP and associate professor in the college, PPP president Amanda Sylvester read the society’s constitution. Each inductee then pledged to promote academic excellence and interest in the marine sciences. They also received certificates of induction and hand-painted shells (crafted by current members) as symbols of their commitment to the field.

The inductees celebrated with friends, family members, current Society members, and the chapter’s founding members, NSU alumni Tandace Burkhart, Mary Crider, and Sharein El-Tourky.

By providing an incentive for students to excel, PPP aims to attract more marine biology majors and minors to NSU and create a more dynamic experience for the current students. Rho Rho Rho’s Alpha chapter was founded at the University of Miami in 1990, and its Beta chapter was established at NSU in Sept. 2008. The two chapters participate in shared events.

For more information about Rho Rho Rho, contact Joshua Feingold, Ph.D., at (954) 262-8307, or visit the college’s honor societies Web page.
