Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Hosts “College Night” During Sharks Basketball Doubleheader Versus Lynn University

Sharks mascot Razor shakes hands with Dimitrios Giarikos, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of science in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, during halftime of the women’s basketball game on Jan. 18 at NSU.

Faculty and staff members from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences joined the NSU community in cheering on the Sharks women’s and men’s basketball teams during “College Night” on Jan. 18 in the Arena at the Don Taft University Center.

After enjoying refreshments in the Arena’s Club Room, college members took to the stands, rooting on the Sharks as they battled conference competitors Lynn University from Boca Raton. The women’s team tipped off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s.

During halftime of the women’s game, Dimitrios Giarikos, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of science in the college, competed with Jason Gershman, Ph.D., associate professor and coordinator of mathematics in the college, in a race to see who could shoot a layup after spinning five times at half court. Giarikos made the shot and crossed the finish line first, winning a Best Buy gift card for his efforts.

Each year, the college’s Office of the Dean hosts a “College Night” basketball social, inviting faculty and staff members to gather in support of the Sharks basketball teams.
