Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Charlie Brown Production Draws Crowds, Praise from Original Producer

Arthur Whitelaw (center), who produced the original 1967 production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown as well as its Tony Award-winning revival in 1999, visited the NSU student cast after their closing performance on Oct. 7.

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences opened its 2012–2013 Premier Series with performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” the classic musical centered on the Peanuts comic-strip characters created by Charles M. Schulz.

NSU’s two-week engagement featured a cast of undergraduate student performers, set designers, directors, and stage manager. Hundreds of NSU community members visited campus for the family-friendly theatrical production.

Following the closing performance on Oct. 7, the student cast had a visit from a special guest: Arthur Whitelaw, who produced the original 1967 production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” as well as its Tony Award-winning revival in 1999.

Whitelaw called the College’s Peanuts-inspired production, “one of the freshest takes I’ve seen of the show.”
