Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences celebration of Black History Month continues
Each February, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences commemorates Black History Month, celebrating the contributions of African Americans in United States history. The college invites the NSU community to participate in the following thought-provoking and inspiring events that will explore the people, literature, music, and experiences of black history in the United States and around the world. These events are free, but space is limited. The remaining events that Farquhar College of Arts & Sciences is hosting include:
• Thursday, Feb. 16 | Noon–1:00 p.m. | Alvin Sherman Library, Room 2053
As part of the college’s Faculty Lecture Series, Chetachi Egwu, Ph.D., assistant professor in the college, and Cathleen Dean, adjunct professor in the college, will present “Runway Afrique: The Power of African Images in the Fashion Industry”. The event will include a discussion and screening of Runway Afrique, a 30-minute film by Egwu and Dean that documents the first New York Africa Fashion Week.

The college will host a screening and panel discussion of the film A Good Man, which documents choreographer Bill T. Jones’s new work on Abraham Lincoln. Panel members will include Clarence Brooks, M.F.A., associate professor/director of dance at FAU; and from the college: David Kilroy, Ph.D., associate professor; Elana Lanczi, M.F.A., assistant professor; and Augusto Soledade, M.F.A., assistant professor. Chetachi Egwu, Ph.D., assistant professor, will moderate the discussion.

Actor David Mills will lead a student writing workshop discussing Letter from the Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Mills returns to NSU for a one-man performance as Martin Luther King, Jr., using monologues and speeches made by the civil-rights leader.
