Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Associate Professor Earns Community Service Award

Elizabeth Swann, Ph.D.

Elizabeth Swann, Ph.D., ATC, associate professor and athletic training program director at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, has earned the 2013 Virginia R. Gamble Award for outstanding community service, presented by the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale, Inc.

The league defines itself as “an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and to improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.” The annual Virginia R. Gamble Award honors an outstanding active member who has transcended her membership responsibilities and has strived for excellence in promoting volunteerism throughout the community, said league president Gina Ciolino Reynen.

“Elizabeth has given countless hours of her time to improve our current processes, mentor women, and plan for the future of our league,” said Reynen. “She is willing to make herself available to assist in any way she is needed and simply does not have the word ‘no’ in her vocabulary.”

Several league members nominated Swann for the prestigious award, noting the valuable role she has played in completing various projects and how much they enjoy working with her.

Swann is also active in the community as an NSU faculty member and director of the college’s Athletic Training Education Program. Throughout the year, Swann and her students volunteer at local events, such as marathons, 5K runs, and gymnastics camps, administering aid to participants.
