Family Center Children Create Museum of Recycled Art and Inventions
The four year-olds in Miss Carol and Miss Nikki’s Pre-Kindergarten class at the Mailman Segal Center’s Family Center Preschool are proud to show off their creative artwork as they host the opening of their child-made, nature inspired “Museum of Recycled Art and Inventions.” The children created, constructed and maintain the Museum, which serves as an educational dramatic play environment and is open to all of the children who attend preschool at the Family Center.
Miss Nikki describes the processes that the children used with the project, “Using the internet to do research and find images, the children worked together to plan their ideas for their museum.”
The children’s ideas fostered the development of this project, “reading books and having conversations with the children about the environment, animals and wildlife, paved the way for a remarkable, truly emergent curriculum” explains Carol Hubler, a lead teacher at the Family Center.
The Family Center Preschool embraces a philosophy that values the creativity and ideas of children and facilitates appropriate corresponding educational experiences for children in creative and exciting ways.
