Faculty Presentation to Include Talk, Film about African Fashion Designers
As part of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Lecture Series, Chetachi Egwu, Ph.D., assistant professor in the college, and Cathleen Dean, adjunct professor in the college, will present “Runway Afrique: The Power of African Images in the Fashion Industry”. The talk and film screening will take place on Thursday, Feb. 16, from noon to 1:00 p.m., in the Alvin Sherman Library, room 2053.
The lecture will include a detailed discussion about the lack of African designers and models on fashion runways, which cuts these designers out of the $47 billion fashion industry. The event will also include a private screening of Runway Afrique. Created by Egwu and Dean, the 30-minute profile film documents the first New York Africa Fashion Week.
The Faculty Lecture Series draws from the knowledge and expertise of more than 120 full-time faculty members within the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. The series explores the faculty’s diverse areas of interest in the arts, humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, and biological sciences. These talks are free and open to the public.
