About the Talk
The lecture will explore Sarah Polley’s film investigating her decreased mother’s secret life through the lens of artifacts and interview with others. By employing postmodern stylistics––Super-8 home footage combined with faux home footage and interspersed with photographs, emails, and a narrative within a narrative––Polley arrives at some conclusions about her muddled parentage and its impact on her own constructed identity.
