Explore Your Family Tree at Summer Genealogy Series – Begins May 17
Think you might have a famous or infamous relative lurking in your family tree? Find out for sure using the genealogical techniques being taught all summer long at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center.
All workshops are free and open to the public, but space is limited to 35 seats per class so registration is required. All classes will be in the Alvin Sherman Library, on the first floor in Lab 1046 unless otherwise noted. The May portion of the summer genealogy schedule includes:

May is National Jewish Heritage Month. Join the Alvin Sherman Library & the Jewish Genealogical Society of Broward County and learn how to explore Jewish roots. - Genealogy 101,
Friday, May 22 from 2-4 p.m.
This regular program is an orientation to the library’s genealogical resources and to genealogy research in general. Participants work with a librarian to learn how to access specialized genealogical databases and how to use the genealogical book collection. Participants will also be provided with a genealogical research starter kit to help begin their family history quest. - Kings, Queens, Pilgrims or Tavern Keepers – Who is in Your Family Tree?

Could you be a descendent of royalty? Perhaps you are a direct descendant of King John and the Magna Charta Barons. Maybe there is a Mayflower passenger hidden somewhere in your tree. Debbie Duay, Ph.D. will discuss lineage societies such as Order of the Crown of Charlemagne, The General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and Flagon and Trencher (Descendants of Colonial Tavern keepers), and explain how to find and document an eligible ancestor. - Begot, Begat, Begets: Beginning Genealogy 101,

Have you ever wondered about your great-grandparents? Perhaps you have wanted to work on your family history, but you had no idea how to get started. If the answer is yes, this workshop is for you. Debbie Duay, Ph.D., will teach you how to record names, dates, and places on genealogical charts; use online databases to trace your family tree; and collect vital records and other documentation to validate your research.
