This workshop will focus on exploring 1,000 years of English Heraldry, covering the Royal College of Arms, Visitations of the Heralds, library resources, and genealogical sources. The research focus will begin with the Colonial Ancestor from the 17th Century in the Colonies and how to trace a lineage back to its origins.

NSU Alvin Sherman Library
Conference Room 4009
Sunday, January 25, 2015
2:00-4:00 pm

2015 marks the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta and the 25 Barons – all of whom left their mark on future generations through their heraldic bearings. The National Society Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century Society is the only women’s lineage society with a focus on heraldry. The society’s national headquarters in Washington, D.C., is known for having a large collection of coats-of-arms on display and is a frequent area tourist stop. Very soon the society will pass the 16,000 application mark with approved coats-of-arms applications.

The program will be led by Maureen McGowan Singer, National Heraldry Chairman of the National Society Colonial Dames 17th Century and Carol Sutton, Heraldry vice-chairman.

Free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the Hillsboro Lighthouse Chapter, National Society Colonial Dames 17th Century.
