Eighteen Optometry Students Complete Requirements to become Student Fellows in the American Academy of Optometry

Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry is proud to announce that 18 of its current students completed the requirements to become Student Fellows in the American Academy of Optometry this year.  This number is outstanding and represents an extensive commitment by these students.

The students who achieved this are Jenalyn Jotie, Margi Patel, Karuna Seidman, Tiffany Doan, Renee Clark, Jocelyn Cercone, Stephanie Frankel, Patrick Cassidy, Hammad Mallick, John Kauderman, Marta Banh, Alex Boldis, Lisbet Abrante, Pinar Haytac, Meghann Hamindiani, Asma Alsalameh, Farah Abdoly, and Jennifer Gonzalez.

The Academy launched this program in 2011 hoping that it will stimulate improved integration of all of the opportunities offered at the Academy meeting, encourage future involvement, and persuade students to become Fellows upon graduation.

The Student Fellowship program is a great opportunity for students to engage in cutting edge knowledge and technology through lectures, workshops, posters and much more. The program is geared to guide students to develop their skills as an optometric or vision science professional. Students were encouraged to explore all the amazing events at Academy 2011 Boston.

To obtain Student Fellowship, students were required to do the following at Academy 2011 Boston:

1. Be a current Student Member of the AAO
2. Attend ONE orientation breakfast
3. Attend 6 hours of continuing education
4. Attend 1 hour of scientific talks
5. Attend 1 hour of posters
6. Attend one Plenary Session or one Monroe J. Hirsch Symposium
7. Attend one Business Meeting
8. Attend one Section Symposium
9. Attend one Awards Symposium

NSU optometry students received a Student Fellow lapel pin, a certificate, and their Candidacy for Fellowship application dues will be waived during their year of graduation.  They will also enjoy free registration to the next Academy meeting.
