Documentary Film by Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Wins Top Award

Chetachi Egwu

Chetachi Egwu, Ph.D.

Runway Afrique, a film by Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences faculty members, earned the award for Best Documentary at the Miami Fashion Film Festival in September 2013. Co-created by Chetachi Egwu, Ph.D., assistant professor, and Cathleen Dean, adjunct professor, the 30-minute film documents the first-ever Africa Fashion Week New York in 2010.

The film focuses on Adiat Disu from Adiree Fashion Agency, who set out to redefine Africa’s image in fashion by creating the festival. Africa Fashion Week New York highlighted designers from the African Diaspora and showcased multicultural runway models, attempting to prove there’s more to African fashion than en vogue “tribal” styles. Viewers receive an in-depth look at Adiat, the designers, and the models throughout this pioneering journey.
