Dispose of your disposables, once and for all

It’s hard to argue the convenience of disposable stuff. However, that convenience comes with a price. When addicted to too many disposables, you may find yourself constantly spending money driving to the store, and buying disposables over and over again. Furthermore, disposables can make real unhealthy impact on your local landfill. Luckily, there are lots of ways to reduce your waste and break a disposables habit. It’s all about knowing how to make replacements. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Paper Towels: For a lot of people, this is a major household necessity. But, there are alternatives. Regular cloth towels work well for spills and rags, such as old clothes or bed sheets, are great for tough messes and big cleaning jobs like washing the car or cleaning the bathroom.

Bottled drinks: this is another big one, and perhaps the most expensive. Switch to a reusable plastic or stainless-steel bottle to carry your drinks and watch the savings roll in.

Plastic baggies: If you’ve been taking a brown bag to work, you’re probably using a lot of these. Did you know, unless they held raw meat, you can wash them, air dry them, and reuse them? Alternatively, you can switch to reusable plastic or glass containers.

Batteries: These can be environmentally harmful when not recycled properly, which can prove difficult. Not so difficult is switching to rechargeable batteries. Actually, you are probably half way there if you recharge your phone, music player, laptop, or gaming system.

Coffee filters: Switching to a reusable filter may not save piles of money, but it will keep a lot of coffee filters out of your local landfill.
