Director of NSU’s Arena Wins the Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award
The Breaking the Glass Ceiling Award was established by the Jewish Museum of Florida in 1995 for Jewish women in Florida who have broken the proverbial glass ceiling in professional fields that are normally dominated by men. To date, more than 80 outstanding winners have been honored with this distinction, from a wide variety of fields. Nominees are also judged based upon activities in the Jewish and civic communities and serving as role models for other women.
Melissa Fronstin, Director of NSU’ arena was a recipient of the award this year. Fronstin is a forerunner in the sports arena management business, an industry that continues to be dominated by men. In 1987, she became the first Director of Sales and Marketing for South Florida’s original entertainment facility, Miami Arena, which was home to the Miami Heat. In 2011, Melissa’s career came full-circle, when she was named the first female Arena Director of the 4,500 seat Don Taft Arena at Nova Southeastern University.
