Dental Professor Receives Faculty Educator Development Award

Jason Portnof, DMD, MD., associate professor at NSU College of Dental Medicine, was recently honored with the 2013 Faculty Educator Development Award from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation (OMSF). Portnof was one of four recipients of the award and was honored at the opening ceremonies of the AAOMS 95th annual meeting in Orlando, FL.
The award, which is in the form of a three-year, $130,000 grant, was established to encourage promising young oral and maxillofacial surgeons to choose an academic career, encourage promising faculty members to continue their academic careers, and provide financial incentives to residency programs to retain and recruit oral and maxillofacial surgery faculty.
