Denny’s Hosts Autism Awareness Night Benefiting Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at NSU
The NSU community recently came out to support Autism Awareness night on Sept. 27 at Denny’s Restaurant at 5645 South University Drive in Davie. During this event, Denny’s raised more than $1,000 – 20% of the evening’s revenue – to support the UM-NSU CARD (University of Miami – Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) services in Broward County.
The night included Bobby the Balloon Man and his wonderful creations, face painting, and a silent auction with wonderful prizes. The restaurant also welcomed individuals and families touched by autism spectrum disorders.
Adam Jacobs, owner of this Denny’s location, said he was proud to host such an important night for his community. He decided to host the fundraiser after hearing about an unfortunate event that took place at the Olive Garden in Boynton Beach a few weeks ago: a Weston family was dining out with their child, who has an autism diagnosis, and was allegedly assaulted by another diner who claimed the child with autism was annoying him.
