CPS Faculty Provide Guidance at School Counseling Day by Broward County Public Schools
NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies (CPS), sponsored the School Counseling Professional Development Program for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) that was held on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Each year the nation’s sixth-largest public school system conducts this professional development event in order to ensure their school counselors are learning new information to better serve their students.
Professor Scott Poland, Ph.D., delivered the keynote address on the critical role that school counselors have in crisis prevention and intervention. He stressed the need for all students to feel connected to their school and the importance of students knowing when to get adult help, many attendees called his presentation inspirational. Assistant Professor Carolyn Berger conducted a workshop on building comprehensive, developmental school counseling programs that follow the American School Counselor Association model.
More than 350 school counselors who serve all grade levels within the school district participated in the day-long event. The event was coordinated by NSU CPS alumnus Lisa Albee who is the School Counseling Director for the Department of College & Career Readiness for BCPS.
