Tammy Kushner, Psy.D., (NSU-BSO advisory board); Kimberly Durham, Psy.D., (NSU-BSO advisory board); Michael Bourke, Ph.D., (Chief Psychologist U.S. Marshall Service); Vincent Van Hasselt, Ph.D., (NSU-BSO advisory board); and Captain Robin Larson (NSU-BSO advisory board).

On May 4, Nova Southeastern University and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (NSU-BSO Partnership) welcomed CPS alum, Michael L. Bourke, Ph.D., Chief Psychologist for the United States Marshal Service (USMS) and head of the USMS Behavioral Analysis Unit. Bourke presented at the annual Violence Knows No Boundaries conference on sex crimes and offenders.

He received rave reviews from mental health providers, public safety personnel, law enforcement, child protection personnel and school personnel alike. Attendees stated that his presentation was “credible, comprehensive, humorous, appropriate, and professional.”  Bourke’s presentation provided an overview of the current research regarding the incidence, etiology, and course of sex crimes drawing from his years of experience as a clinical psychologist and consultant to various sex offender treatment programs within the federal prison system. He outlined the behavioral and psychological characteristics of sexual offenders, described the typologies of offenders, and provided techniques related to self care for professionals involved in sex crime investigations.
