County Leaders to Share Sustainability Plans at Campus Event

Broward County Mayor Marty Kiar and Samantha Danchuk, a leader in the county’s environmental planning and community resilience division, will be guest speakers at NSU’s next “Sustainability 101” event at noon in the DeSantis building room 3049. The program is being co-hosted by the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship and the Shepard Broad College of Law.

Kiar and Danchuk will discuss, “What Does It Take to Live in Sustainable Broward County?” and will detail the county’s sustainability efforts in the areas of employment, health, innovation, transportation and education. They also will discuss how NSU contributes to the county’s plan.

Broward County was the first U.S. county to be awarded 4 STAR recognition in 2014. This is North American’s top community rating for sustainable cities and counties.

Kiar, an alumnus of the Shepard Broad College of Law, also serves as the Broward County Commissioner for District 1, encompassing parts of Davie, Weston, Sunrise, Plantation, Lauderhill and Tamarac. As a lifetime resident of Broward County, he is committed to maintaining the area’s unique way of life for all residents and future generations.
