Conn, Labosky Sweep SSC Baseball Weekly Awards

Players_of_the_Week

Following a wild opening weekend on the diamond, one in which No. 12 Nova Southeastern collected a trio of wins, both Devin Conn and Andrew Labosky have been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week.

Conn made quite the first impression in his Nova Southeastern debut last Thursday against 15th-ranked Catawba. The sophomore right-hander racked up 13 strikeouts in seven scoreless innings, recording multiple punch-outs in five of those frames before exiting with the Sharks comfortably in front by an 8-0 margin. Nerves were no factor for Conn on Opening Day as the transfer from Middle Tennessee State retired the first 11 batters he faced. His 13 strikeouts were the most by any NSU player since World Series Champion Mike Fiers did so back on Mar. 28, 2009.

Labosky, meanwhile, did more than his fair share in the Sharks’ ridiculous 55-run total through the first four ball games. The lead-off man torched the opposition in tune to a slash line of .619/.652/1.143, racking up two home runs to go along with 10 RBI and eight runs scored, both tops in the SSC. Additionally, the Coral Springs, Fla. native recorded a pair of five-hit efforts, including Sunday’s two-homer and seven-RBI performance in Nova Southeastern’s 25-6 rout of Catawba. The Player of the Week selection marks the first for the Sharks since Justin Garcia earned the honor in 2015.
