Congressman Allen West Visits NSU Oceanographic Center

NSU OC Dean Richard E. Dodge, Ph.D., Congressman Allen West, and NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D.

U.S. Congressman Allen West visited Nova Southeastern University’s Oceanographic Center (OC) on April 29th to learn more about the exciting research at the OC. The visit included a briefing by OC Dean Richard E. Dodge, Ph.D., and a tour of the shore-based coral nursery. Congressman West, a PADI Master certified SCUBA diver, was able to view coral gametes that were collected offshore during the annual coral spawning earlier in the week. West also viewed the construction progress of the new Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystem Science research facility with NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D. and John Santulli, Vice President for Facilities Management.

Oceanographic Center graduate student researcher Keri O’Neil shows Congressman Allen West coral larvae in a settlement tank.
