Computer Sciences School Doctoral Student Visits Kenya to Develop Human Resource Software

Eric Straw, alumnus of the M.S. in Computer Information Systems program and current doctoral student at NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, recently visited Nairobi, Kenya with a group of students who are developing human resources software for Bible Translation & Literacy Kenya (BTL).

Straw is currently teaching undergraduate and M.B.A. courses at Corban University, and this visit to Kenya was part of the students’ senior project. This project was initiated when Straw was contacted by Wycliffe Bible Translators about the possibility of students assisting them with human resource (HR) software.

Last year, three seniors committed to developing version 1 of the BTL HR software as part of their senior capstone project. Straw brought these students to Kenya to work with BTL for two weeks in February, 2011. This year’s team of three has been working on version 2 of the BTL HR software. While in Nairobi the students met with BTL to go over progress and set direction for the remainder of the semester.
