Computer Sciences School Doctoral Student Awarded Google Grant for Service Project
Nathan White, a doctoral student in information systems at NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, recently received a Google grant to complete a computer science workshop for high school teachers.
White is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at McKendree University in Illinois, and this past fall established an Association for Computer Machinery (ACM) chapter with computer science students. As a group, they decided to work on a service-oriented project and chose to host a Transactions in Embedded Computing Systems (TECS) workshop for high school teachers.
After completing this endeavor, they applied for a grant through the Google Computer Science for High School (CS4HS) initiative. Last week, White was notified his group would be awarded a $14,500 grant from Google’s Education Group.
White and the ACM Chapter will be hosting the workshop on June 7 – 8 and hope to host 30 to 40 high school teachers from Southwest Illinois and the St. Louis metropolitan area.
