College of Pharmacy’s Kappa Psi Wins STUEY for Graduate Student Organization of the Year
The College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce that Kappa Psi won the STUEY for Graduate Student Organization of the Year. Kappa Psi, the oldest and largest professional pharmacy fraternity in the world, was founded on May 30, 1879 in New Haven, Connecticut. Currently there are 141 chapters (82 Collegiate and 59 Graduate chapters), five thousand collegiate members, and over eighty-thousand graduate members across the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas.
Members of Kappa Psi have shown their leadership skills by attending leadership development seminars and workshops at Local, State, and National levels. The members of Kappa Psi currently serve as leaders on Executive Boards of the most reputable organizations within the College of Pharmacy. Kappa Psi members currently serve as Presidents of Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FSHP), American Society of Consulting Pharmacy (ASCP), Student Government Association, Phi Lambda Sigma: Pharmacy Leadership Society, American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP). Not only this, many of our members hold positions at state levels.
Throughout the years, members of Kappa Psi have demonstrated scholastic capabilities by receiving various scholarships through the College of Pharmacy, Nova Southeastern University and reputable Pharmacy Organizations. Members of Kappa Psi are also members of the prestigious organization Rho Chi Society: Academic Honor Society in Pharmacy. Despite their overwhelming workload, involvement and extracurricular activities, they are able to share their scholastic aptitude by tutoring fellow classmates. Kappa Psi members have attended Florida Legislative Days in Tallahassee, Florida where they represented their school, fraternity, and student body in promoting pharmacy legislation in favor of the pharmacy profession.
Kappa Psi continues to show its service by fundraising for various charities such as Susan G. Komen, American Lung Association, Step Out for Diabetes, and Ronald McDonald House. Kappa Psi goes beyond local fundraisers and hosts the Annual NSU Dance Marathon to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Over the last three years, Kappa Psi has raised over $15,000 and continues to raise awareness.
Congratulations to Kappa Psi!
