College of Pharmacy Welcomes New Faculty
Jesús Sánchez, Ph.D. joined Nova Southeastern University’s College of Pharmacy as an associate professor in the Department of Sociobehavioral and Administrative Pharmacy in November 2010. He received a bachelors of arts degree in sociology from the Universidad de Granada, Spain, and earned his master of arts and Ph.D. degrees in sociology from the University of Miami. Prior to joining Nova Southeastern University, Sánchez was an assistant professor at Florida International University.
Jesús Sánchez, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Department of Sociobehavioral and Administrative Pharmacy at NSU’s College of Pharmacy.
In addition to his teaching duties in the college, Sánchez will continue his research efforts into the underlying health issues affecting Hispanic migrant workers in South Florida, particularly those whose drug use places them at high risk for contracting HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C virus infections. The ultimate goal of this work is to provide effective educational systems to reduce that risk.
In addition to having published accounts of his work in a variety of scientific journals, Sánchez has received several awards and honors. In 2003, he was part of the first cohort of grantees to receive a Minority AIDS Research Initiative Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2007, he received an Excellence in Research Award from the Center for Research on U.S. Latino AIDS/HIV and Drug Abuse.
