College of Pharmacy Opens Country’s First Center for Consumer Health Informatics Research

Nova Southeastern University’s College of Pharmacy (COP) has created the first Center for Consumer Health Informatics Research (CCHIR) in the country.

As part of its innovative approach to research, education, and service, Nova Southeastern University’s College of Pharmacy (COP) has created the first Center for Consumer Health Informatics Research (CCHIR) in the country. The mission of the CCHIR is to generate discoveries that leverage the potential of consumer health informatics to improve patient health. This will be realized through the foci of consumer health informatics, medicines information, and public health. The Center is housed in the College of Pharmacy and uses a multidisciplinary approach to research to answer questions and develop interventions in areas including online health information seeking, social media in healthcare, and mobile health (mHealth).

The Center serves as an advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) training site for students from COP. Required medicines information courses as well as electives in consumer health informatics and independent research are taught by Center faculty. A Fellowship in Consumer Health Informatics is also being developed. As part of its commitment to the community, the CCHIR provides a medicines information service by accepting queries regarding medication therapy, pharmacovigilance, policy, and law. Queries may be submitted by phone 954-262-3103 on weekdays from 9:00-5:00 PM EST. The Center does not take queries on weekends or holidays.

If you have additional questions regarding the Center for Consumer Health Informatics Research, please click here for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) or email us at CCHIRinfo@nova.edu.
