College of Psychology Hosts Neuroscience Summer Camp

High school students conducted research at NSU

NSU faculty with high school students during the poster presentation at the conclusion of the neuroscience training program.

The College of Psychology recently hosted its two-week Behavioral Neuroscience training program for high school students.

The training program, was held from July 24 through Aug. 4, was organized by Department of Psychology and Neuroscience faculty Jaime Tartar, Matthew Collins, and Jonathan Banks, all Ph.D. As part of the community outreach event, students conducted research experiments under the mentorship of NSU faculty and students.

Hands-on activities included the dissection of sheep brains, analysis of action potentials in cockroach legs, and work in the computational neuroscience lab. At the end of the two weeks, students presented their research posters to their parents and NSU faculty at a reception in the atrium of the Carl DeSantis Building.

Other NSU faculty contributors included Bob Speth, Glenn Scheyd, James Munoz, Leanne Boucher, Travis Craddock, Valerie Starratt, and Weylin Sternglanz, all Ph.D. Contributing NSU students included Bailey McDonald, Cailey Weaver, Sarah Knafo, and Tara Tritsch.
