College of Psychology Faculty Member Receives the University’s Professor of the Year Award

George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., NSU President & CEO; Vincent B. Van Hasselt, Ph.D.,professor, College of Psychology and director of NSU’s Family Violence Program; Ralph V. Rogers Jr., Ph.D., NSU provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

Vincent B. Van Hasselt, Ph.D., professor at the College of Psychology and director of NSU’s Family Violence Program, was recently awarded NSU’s 2014-2015 President’s Distinguished Professor Award of Excellence. The ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in the Alvin Sherman Library.

Well known in the local law, state, and federal enforcement communities, Van Hasselt is a certified police officer with the City of Plantation Police Department, a licensed psychologist in the state of Florida, and a clinical supervisor.

His distinguished NSU career began in 1992 and has included experience as a professor, administrator, consultant, and researcher. He is an author and editor of journal articles, books, and book chapters focusing on strategies and issues in critical incident stress management, crisis (hostage negotiations), and crisis intervention training. This is the second year in a row that a College of Psychology faculty member has received the university’s Professor of the Year award.
