College of Pharmacy Presents at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists Annual Conference
A research team from the NSU College of Pharmacy led by Assistant Professor Mutasem Rawas-Qalaji, B.Pharm., Ph.D., recently presented four posters during the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas. AAPS is the largest association for pharmaceutical scientists worldwide and this conference is well attended by pharmaceutical scientists from around the world.
The team’s research focused on nanotechnology and its application in enhancing drug diffusion, absorption and bioavailability using a novel dosage form. Rawas-Qalaji. joined the College of Pharmacy in 2008 and has since trained numerous Pharm.D. and Ph.D. students from the NSU colleges of pharmacy and dental medicine. He has published 44 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in high impact peer-reviewed journals and filed 16 patent applications (eight U.S. provisional, three U.S., and five international) through NSU’s Office of Research and Technology Transfer. The research team also included Ph.D. pharmacy students Alhussain Aodah, B.Pharm., and Lina Alaydi, B.Pharm., and Pharm.D. students Annette Losada, B.Sc. and Belacryst A. Mendez.
