College of Pharmacy Continuing Education Program Receives 6-year Accreditation

Fall - PAI-Photo 2017 (002)

Faculty and students at this years summer Physical Assessment Institute.

For the past 22 years the College of Pharmacy Continuing Education (CE) department has been offering continuing professional development courses for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians from across Florida and the United States.  This year, under the continued leadership of Carsten Evans, Ph.D., executive director, Continuing Education and Professional Affairs,  the program achieved a full 6-year extension of accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

Live programs range from Contemporary Issues, Physical Assessment in Patient Care Management offered each summer, a two-day Florida Consultant Pharmacist License program which meet the requirement for application for the consultancy license, Integrative or Preventive Medicine which appeals to pharmacists using natural remedies, nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle changes to reduce pharmaceutical use by patients, and the NSU Fall Classic each November. A new on-line program now offers the required Validation of Prescriptions for Controlled Substances.

This year the CE department will propose the first certificate program in business genetic testing for pharmacists.  This program will educate pharmacists on both practical and business aspects and offer a collaborative agreement for pharmacists who want to step into a “turnkey” operation with a physician to coordinate patient care.

Carsten Evans, Ph.D and his assistant Jeanie Ross, always enjoy preparing these exciting programs and are constantly looking for new ideas and opportunities to educate the 21st century pharmacist.  To find out more about Pharmacy CE programs visit the Continuing Pharmacy Education web page or email pharmce@nova.edu.
