College of Pharmacy and Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Publish Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Study

Jennifer Gershman, Pharm.D., assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy, Jason Gershman, Ph.D., associate professor in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, Andrea Fass, Pharm.D., assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy, and Ioana Popovici, Ph.D., assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy recently published a study in the Journal Pain Medicine, the official journal of the American Academy of Pain Medicine. The study researched Florida physicians’ attitudes and knowledge toward accessing the state’s prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP). Florida’s PDMP collects and stores controlled substance dispensing information to prevent prescription drug abuse. Medical doctors and osteopathic physicians licensed in Florida were randomly selected for a voluntary and anonymous self-administered survey. The study revealed that a majority of participants believe that Florida’s PDMP is a useful tool for monitoring patients’ controlled substance histories. Click here to read the article.
