Alumni Spotlight: College of Pharmacy Alumni Appointed as Vice President of Pharmacy for Univita Health

David Ballesteros, PharmD, MBA

Univita Health, the leader in post-acute and home healthcare solutions, has recently appointed NSU”s College of Pharmacy alumni, David Ballesteros, (’99) PharmD, MBA, as Vice President of Pharmacy for its home infusion pharmacy operations.

Ballesteros brings more than 15 years of pharmacy management experience to Univita. “David’s experience in hospital and retail pharmacy operations will be vital to Univita’s ongoing pharmacy expansion,” said Michael Muchnicki, Chief Executive Officer at Univita. “He brings a wealth of experience to Univita that will ultimately benefit our home infusion patients and support our health plan partners.”

Ballesteros’ career started in 2000 as an Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacist at the James Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa. He then transitioned into a management role in 2001 as a Call Center Operations Manager with Medco. In 2007, he was recruited to be the Director of Pharmacy-Mail Order Operations with Pharmacy Management Services, Inc. (PMSI). During that time, he was a Facilitator with the University of Florida’s Working Professional PharmD Program (WPPD), and also served as a Pharmacist Officer in the US Army Reserves, 345th Combat Support Hospital in St. Petersburg. His military service includes serving as a Company Commander for HHC, Headquarters Company with the 73rd Field Hospital, and as a Pharmacist Officer for a humanitarian mission in Paraguay. He most recently served as the Director of Pharmacy and Infusion Services for Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health. Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health is a non-profit organization serving hospice patients in Pinellas County, Florida. Prior to joining Suncoast, he was the Pharmacy Operations Manager at AnazaoHealth.

Ballesteros completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida, and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Nova Southeastern University. After being in practice for several years, he returned to school and completed his MBA at the University of Tampa.
