College of Engineering and Computing to Host Showcase Event, Nov. 13

Recently Nova Southeastern University (NSU) underwent a transformational process in which it realigned and renamed various colleges and centers, all with the goal to better 
integrate undergraduate and graduate degree programs university-wide. As part of this process, three new colleges and programs joined NSU – one of which is the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC). As a way to help spread the word of the new college and all it has to offer, CEC has scheduled a Showcase Event that’s open to the CEC and broader NSU community.
The free event is scheduled for Friday, November 13 at the Carl DeSantis Bldg., 3301 College Ave., Fort Lauderdale. From 9-10 a.m. there will be a presentation by NSU Distinguished Alumna Dawn Beyer, Ph.D., who earned her degree in 2014. From 10-11:30 a.m. the college will conduct its Showcase activities.
The new College of Engineering and Computing combines the Ph.D. and master’s degree programs formerly housed in the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences, and bachelor’s degree programs across computer science, engineering, and technology from the College of Arts and Sciences. The college is also offering new Bachelor of Science in general engineering that will begin this fall (2016, pending SACS approval).
The event features a presentation/discussion by NSU Distinguished Alumna Dawn Beyer, Ph.D. (2014). Beyer is a Lockheed Martin Fellow in Colorado where she works in information systems and global services. Among her many responsibilities, Beyer provides guidance, direction, leadership, training, and mentoring to engineers supporting multiple efforts across the U.S.
Beyer spent 12 years on active duty with the U.S. Air Force, followed by various assignments as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Air Force Reserves. More recently, she served as an intelligence officer (major) for the 302nd Operations Group/Intelligence at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs. There, she provided operational planning, weapons and tactics, intelligence training, threat assessment, and mobility readiness to the 302nd Air Wing.
Along with the alumna presentation, the Showcase will feature a number of fun, hands-on activities, all of which have the goal of allowing attendees to learn more about the college, the programs offered and the faculty who make things happen. The activities include: robot building (and operation); faculty meet and greet (aka Faculty Speed Dating); Cornhole games and more.
