College of Dental Medicine Inducts Candidates into Dental Honor Society

Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the National Dental Honor Society, Chi Psi chapter at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine (CDM) held its annual induction ceremony on May 27 at the Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Thirteen students and two faculty members were named members. The student members inducted were Damian Black, Osbel Borges, Juan Francisco Espanol , Kristin Hodgson, Andrew Kelso, Avanthi Kopouri, Shannon McCarthy, John McLin, Tuomas Niemi, Sami Nizam, Michelle Palmer, Rita Patel, and Leanne Tinsley. The faculty members inducted were John Antonelli, D.D.S., M.S., and Jeffrey Thompson, Ph.D. CDM. Faculty members Sharon Siegel, D.D.S., and Harvey Quinton, D.D.S., are the 2009-2010 Chi Psi chapter president and the secretary-treasurer, respectively.
The Omicron Kappa Upsilon Society was organized to recognize those who distinguish themselves by a high grade of scholarship. The name and key of the society symbolize the ideal for which the dental profession is striving – conservation of teeth and health. Student members are eligible for consideration from the upper 20 percent of the class, scholastically. From this group, 12 percent of the senior class who have also demonstrated exemplary traits of character and potential qualities of future professional growth and attainments are selected.
