College of Dental Medicine Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Training Program
Nova Southeastern University’s College of Dental Medicine’s Section of Community Dentistry recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of its AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) post-graduate dental residency program. The Section of Community Dentistry is a vital component of the College of Dental Medicine. The Section’s key programs and activities are focused on the intra-professional and interdisciplinary education of oral healthcare students, residents, and community-based professionals. Primary objectives include increasing the number of persons who have successfully completed pre-and post-doctoral training. This prepares a workforce of oral health professionals who are better able to care for persons with special health care needs. These professionals will continue to provide more care for vulnerable populations in community-based settings, thereby achieving the goal of improving oral health, systemic health, and access to care in these communities.
The anniversary weekend’s commemorative activities centered around a day-long continuing education course presented by renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon Steven Roser, M.D., D.M.D., professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery at The Emory Clinic in Atlanta. The full-day course reviewed principles of medical management for individuals with special health care needs, as well as current concepts in the management of complications of oral surgical procedures. More than 50 of the program’s alumni and their families dined and danced at B Ocean Hotel on Fort Lauderdale beach during the weekend’s festivities. A celebratory brunch on Sunday marked a relaxed closing to the professionally and socially satisfying recognition of 10 years of educational experiences and training excellence provided by the residency.
