Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series Opens with “Pathways to Sustainable Health”, Sept. 8

Nancy-Klimas-headshot

Nancy Klimas, M.D.

The first talk of the 2014-2015 Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series, hosted by the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, will explore how climate change and social forces are leading to increasing levels of stress and certain health consequences.

“Work, Stress, and Immunity: Pathways to Sustainable Health”
Speaker: Nancy Klimas, M.D., director of NSU’s Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine
Monday, Sept. 8
Noon–1:00 p.m.
Mailman-Hollywood Building, Second Floor Auditorium

Klimas, a clinical immunologist who also serves as the chair of the Department of Clinical Immunology at NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and is a Professor Emerita at the University of Miami School of Medicine, will discuss the association of stress with immune function and health, as well as review global changes in stress patterns and medical outcomes.

She also will examine the field of psychoneuroimmunology––the study of the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the human body––and studies that teach positive ways to work and live without risking our health.

About the Lecture Series
The Climate-Sustainability Lecture Series highlights understanding of the science, technology, and policies relating to climate change and sustainable development. Experts in related fields from within NSU and other institutions are the featured speakers. The series provides faculty members and students the opportunity to discuss the scientific, technological, social, and policy aspects of sustainability-related issues.
