Center for Autism and Related Disabilities Raises Awareness with 3rd Annual Autumn Moonlight Gala
To help raise autism awareness, funds and recognize local community leaders, the UM-NSU CARD (University of Miami – Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) will host its Third Annual “Autumn Moonlight” Cocktail Reception on Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie.
“Autumn Moonlight” will honor Wren S. Newman, SLP.D., CCC-SLP, Associate Dean for the Programs in Speech-Language and Communication Disorders of the Fischler School of Education and Human Services at NSU; and Unicorn Children’s Foundation, an international non-profit organization dedicated to education, awareness and research on behalf of children with learning and communication disorders.
The signature event is also the major fundraiser for the UM-NSU CARD, based at the center’s Clinic for Speech, Language and Communication located at NSU’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services in Davie.
Proceeds from “Autumn Moonlight” will fund free programs, services and research initiatives for the more than 5,400 individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who serve them in Broward County. The gala evening will feature:
- An open bar courtesy of Bacardi USA, with hors d’oeuvres and sweet nibbles
- A Silent Auction featuring unique items and vacation packages
- A Live Auction, with fabulous items including a one-of-a-kind painting by artist Lisa Botto Lee and VIP ticket packages to Miami Dolphin Football games.
Donovan Campbell of Channel 7 will be the evening’s emcee and host of the live auction, while Kawan DeBose will provide live jazz and have the crowd dancing the night away. Attendees will include Autumn Moonlight Honorary Chairs Jeff and Rachel Ireland, Miami Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano and his wife Jeanette, and NSU Chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr., J.D.
Tax-deductible sponsorships and tickets are still available. For more information about the event call 305-284-9126 or visit www.cardatutmnmoonlight.org.
