Center for Autism and Related Disabilities Participants Sing National Anthem at Marlins Game
Several participants from the UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD) program recently got to sing the National Anthem at a Marlins Game.
Marlene Sotello-Bumberg, Ed.D., Assistant Director of Educational Services for UM-NSU CARD, led the five participating children, who all have autism. The singers participated as part of the Apr. 30 Marlins Baseball for Autism Awareness Game.
“These kids did such an amazing job singing the anthem,” Sotello-Bumberg said. “We are very proud of Adrian, Ryan, Braedon, Jonathan, and Jorge.”
The UM-NSU CARD, based at NSU’s Fischler School of Education and Human Services, currently serves more than 5,000 families in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe. It provides free family support, outreach, and educational support services to children and adults of all levels of intellectual functioning who have autism and autistic-like disabilities. In operation since 1993, the UM-NSU CARD is a Florida Department of Education project funded by an appropriation from the state legislature.
