Center for Autism and Related Disabilities Hosts “Transition to Adulthood” Training Seriesi
The University of Miami – Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD) is hosting a series of “Transition to Adulthood” training sessions this summer for families and individuals affected by autism spectrum disorder.
The series will be held at NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler School’s North Miami Beach campus at 1750 N.E. 167th Street, in Conference Room B on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The series is free, but RSVP is required by emailing dchin@psy.miami.edu or calling 954-262-8555. The last session is:
Aug. 16 – Making Transition a Success with Allison Goldberg, Senior Advocate-Investigator Disability Rights Florida. Learn about transition services for students with disabilities, including services provided by Disability Rights Florida (formerly the Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities). This presentation will also cover topics such as: the age at which transition services should begin, who is responsible for putting these services in place, state agencies that can assist, employment options, and assistive technology.
To help ensure the best use of resources, these events will not take place unless a minimum of five individuals have pre-registered a week before the date of the event.
The UM-NSU CARD provides free services for more than 5,500 families throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties. Services include family support, technical assistance and consultation, parent and professional training programs, and public education activities.
