Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at NSU Tampa
NSU Tampa celebrated Hispanic Heritage month by hosting Night of Hispanic & Latino Heritage on Friday, October 10. Over 40 guests participated in the festivities which included several members of the Tampa Bay Community. Guest speakers included Mirtha Whaley, Ph.D., NSU Assistant Professor and Director of Academic Affairs in the Entry Level Doctor of Occupational Therapy in Tampa, Enid Rentas, Director of Osceola Virtual Schools, Pedro Alvarez, NSU alumni and Wallace Reyes,Ph.D., author, historian, researcher and master cigar maker.
Participants had an opportunity to learn about each speaker’s history, cultural background and contributions to our university and community. Participants also had an opportunity to enjoy a variety of Hispanic and Latino food as well as listen to the sounds of salsa and merengue music. Reyes sold several of his books, Once Upon a Time in Tampa, and hosted a historical walking tour through Ybor City the following day.
