CAHSS Welcomed Guy Metayer, Ph.D., as NIRA students prepare for Harvard’s Model UN

NIRA and Dr. Metayer

CAHSS Welcomed Guy Metayer, Ph.D., as NIRA students prepare for Harvard’s Model UN

The Nova International Relations Association (NIRA), which serves as NSU’s Model United Nations team was thrilled to host Guy Metayer, Ph.D., the Haitian Chargé d’Affaires for the Haitian Embassy in Argentina.  NIRA is housed in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS).

NIRA is currently preparing to compete for the first time ever in the Harvard Model United Nations Conference in February. They will be representing Haiti. Metayer was kind enough to spend several hours with NIRA discussing Haitian history and foreign policy.  This provided valuable information and insight to the NIRA team.  In addition, Metayer shared some of his amazing personal history: after studying law at the Université d’Etat d’Haïti, he became the youngest Député (Congressman) ever elected to the Haitian Parliament in 1995.  After serving his term in office, he earned a PhD in Political Science at Florida International University. He then became the Minister Counselor/Chargé d’Affaires for Haiti in Spain and then Argentina.  NIRA would like to extend its gratitude to him for dedicating his time and energy towards helping the Model UN team prepare for Harvard MUN.

The faculty advisor is G. Nelson Bass, J.D., Ph.D., faculty in CAHSS’ Department of History and Political Science. NIRA is open is all NSU undergraduates. For more information, please contact Bass at nbass@nova.edu
