CAHSS to Host the Second Intellectual Conversations on “Truth to Power”

NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) will again host its Intellectual Conversations. This is the second in the fall series titled, “Truth to Power.” This event will feature G. Nelson Bass III, J.D., Ph.D., faculty in the Department of History and Political Science. Bass will discuss “Truth to Power: Examining Neoliberalism in Chile from a Critical Perspective”
The conversation will be held at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library, room 2053.
The event is free and open to the public.
Following the overthrow of Salvador Allende in 1973, the military dictatorship in Chile initiated wide-ranging neoliberal reforms along with horrific repression against working-class movements. Based on research by Bass and Linea Cutter (FCAS class of 2015), this work examines the effects of those reforms, and questions whether much of the current scholarship on the Chilean “success story” is flawed. Moreover, this research is aimed at speaking truth to power about the effects of neoliberalism on the Chilean population.
