CAHSS Faculty Presents at 16th Annual Equine Facilitated Programmes Conference in Ireland

Abby Fuller, Dr. Michelle Hospital, Dr. Shelley Green, Sheila SantageShelley Green, Ph.D., Professor of Family Therapy (DFT) in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, (CAHSS) presented at the International HETI Congress of Equine Facilitated Programmes in Dublin, Ireland on June 27, 2018.  Green and her co-presenter, Michelle Hospital, Ph.D., of Florida International University, presented on their collaborative clinical and research project, “Examining the Impact of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) on PTSD Symptomatology among Residential Foster Care Youth.”

Green initiated a course, Equine Assisted Family Therapy, which was the first of its kind to be housed in a nationally accredited family therapy program. She currently teaches two equine therapy courses run in partnership with the nonprofit Stable Place. The equine assisted therapy program works with individuals, couples, families, and professionals. The Quell Foundation provides a scholarship to support the program and has also received a Ware Foundation grant in partnership with the FIU-BRIDGE program to assist youth in foster care. Two of the equine specialists from Stable Place, Abby Fuller and Sheila Santage, attended the conference.
